This is something I’ve wanted to do even before I got my first type cabinet. Earlier this year I finally managed to make a space in the flat, get the cabinet out of storage and fill up all the cases with my wood type that had been stored under the bed for the last few years. To have my type to hand and accessible without performing box-tetris is such a refreshing development.
Naturally, I needed to label up the cases…
So, last Saturday night (Rock & Roll) I got out my little proofing press, which also has a new home sat atop the cabinet and set about making some labels. I’m finally getting the hang of this printing lark, and am starting to figure out make-ready, inking and printing (almost).
Next step was to fix them to the cabinet, which was a bit tricky as I have a lot of random cases, so each had to be individually measured. Next step is to buy more wood type…
Sometimes it annoys me that I like the make-ready tests better than the prints…
